Increase privacy in your home by adding designs on your windows that are created with acrylic frosting varnish. This product will provide long lasting results and will not damage the glass panes. Acrylic frosting varnish is translucent, so sunlight will still be able to shine through, but people will not be able to see clearly inside your home.

Cleaning And Stencil Application

Clean the glass panes with equal amounts of vinegar and water that are mixed together. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle so that you can easily apply it to the glass. Vinegar will remove grease, fingerprints, and dust. Wipe the mixture off with a lint-free cloth. Decide how large and detailed you would like the finished design to be. You can draw your own picture or use a template to create a stencil on cardboard or paper. Once the stencil has been cut out, tape it down to one of the window panes with masking tape.

Adding The Design

Mix the acrylic varnish for a few minutes so that no air bubbles are present. Pour it into a paint tray. Cover a foam brush with the varnish and fill in the large areas inside of the stencil. For fine details, use smaller paintbrushes. Be consistent and add the same amount of varnish to each part of the design. The varnish will dry in a couple hours. Add an additional coat if there are sections of the design that do not appear to be dark enough.

The varnish will resemble etched glass, but will not be permanent. Complete all of the same steps on each window that you would like to add a design to.

Removing Or Changing The Design

The acrylic frosting varnish can be removed from each window with a wet sponge. Hold a sponge firmly over each section until the varnish becomes wet. You will be able to peel it off in strips. Clean the glass after you are finished and your windows will look like they did when you first had them installed. You can add a different design in the future if you are concerned about the amount of privacy in your home. Another idea to consider is using the varnish to create pictures for different holidays throughout the year. Visit Fas Windows and Doors to learn more.
